American actress/model Sarah grew up in New York City with Jewish parents. Her father Arthur Gellar works in the garment industry, while her mother Rosellen Gellar (girlsname Greenfield) works as teacher at the nursery school. Her maternal grandparents were Hungarian and Jewish immigrants. She grew the biggest part of her childhood up with her mother at the city's Upper East Side after her parents divorce in 1984 when she was seven years old. She loses contact with her father from whom she estranged until the moment her father Arthur was found dead in his Manhattan apartment, under unconfirmed circumstances in 2001.

She started an relation with actor David Boreanaz in 1998 until may 1999 when the relation ended after 12 months. She had an short-term relation with actor Jerry O'Connell in 1999. She met actor Freddie Prinze Jr. during the filming of the teen horror film "I Know What You Did Last Summer" in 1997. They started a relation in february 2000 and the couple marries in Mexico on 01-09-2002. Their daughter Charlotte Grace Prinze was born on 19-09-2009 and son Rocky James Prinze was born on 25-09-2012. She currently resides in Los Angeles with Freddie Prinze Jr. and their two children.

She studied at the Birch Wathen Lenox School and graduated in performing arts at the Fiorello LaGuardia High School. She graduated at the Professional Children's School in New York City in 1994 as straight A-student with a grade average of 4.0. She was also given a partial scholarship to study at the Columbia Grammar & Preparatory School.


Martial Arts


She has an black belt in taekwondo and is trained in karate, boxing, kickboxing and street fighting. She uses a combination of kickboxing, taekwondo, basic street fighting and gymnastics for her role as Buffy Summers. She finished fourth at a taekwondo tournament in Madison Square Garden.


Model Career


She signed a contract with Maybelline and became the first spokeswoman since Lynda Carter in the late 70's. She did a controversial television commercial for Burger King, where her character has criticized McDonald's and claimed only to eat at Burger King. The commercial led to a lawsuit against her where she is banished to eat at McDonald'. She also appeared in Vaseline's "Skin Is Amazing" campaign in 2007.

Charities And Activities

She's ambassador of the charity CARE which is an organisation who fights against world poverty. President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle give a contribution of $25,000 to the charity. She is together with actor Lee Pace founder of the "Superheroes: Fashion and Fantasy, Costume Institute Gala'' at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. She becomes good friends with Lee, after their meeting during the filming of the ''Possession'' (2008). She is active as advocate for various charities as breast cancer research, Project Angel Food and Habitat for Humanity. She joined  the "NestlĂ© Share the Joy of Reading Program" in may 2011, in order to promote the importance of reading, for the development of young children. The program tries to stimulate them to continue reading in the summer break.


Discovery


She was discovered by an agent at a restaurant in Upper Manhattan when she was four years old. She did two weeks later audition for a role in ''An Invasion of Privacy''  when the directors were convinced of her talents. She starred in the movie next to Valerie Harper, Carol Kane and Jeff Daniels.

Action Movie Career


She made her action movie debut as Buffy Summers who is chosen in a long line of young women by fate, in order to become vampire slayer in the succesfull action TV series ''Buffy the Vampire Slayer'' (1996 - 2003). This mystical calling increases her physical strength, endurance, agility, accelerated healing, intuition and a limited degree of clairvoyance, which are usually in the form of prophetic dreams. She fights against vampires, demons and the forces of darkness as the chosen one. She gets help of her friends and is not alone in her quest to save the world.


She plays Buffy Summers in four episodes of the action TV series ''Angel'' (1999 - 2004). The vampire Angel (played by David Boreanaz) has committed terrible crimes in the past. He moves from Sunnydale to Los Angeles in order to seek for forgiveness for his crimes.


She plays Mystery Inc. gang member Daphne in the action comedy ''Scooby-Doo'' (2002). Daphne goes on adventure with her friends Fred (played by Freddie Prinze Jr.), Velma (played by Linda Cardellini), Shaggy (played by Matthew Lillard) and dog Scooby Doo. The friends lived separate and come together when they receive an invitation to amusement park Spooky Island. They discover that the park affects young visitors in very strange ways, while the friends try to solve this mystery. 


She plays Mystery Inc. gang member Daphne again in the action comedy sequel ''Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed'' (2004). Daphne and her friends are guests of honor at the grand opening of the Coolsville Museum of Criminolog. An masked villain creates havoc before stealing the costumes of the gang's most notorious villains: Black Knight Ghost, Pterodactyl Ghost and Tar Monster. The friends investigate the theft and think that their old nemesis scientist Jonathan Jacobo (played by Tim Blake Nelson) has returned.
